“It’s not about entertainment. It’s about respect.”

Despite a sometimes intense, soaking rain — the annual Biddeford Saco Memorial Day Parade and Honor ceremony went off without a hitch.
Once again, the annual event was coordinated by the Heart of Biddeford.
Last year’s parade was cancelled because of a major sewer project that closed portions of Elm Street, forcing the 2025 event into a stationary position at Waterhouse Field.
This year, residents — many accompanied by young children — refused to yield to the weather, willing to endure a pouring rain in order to pay respect and honor all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.
“A lot of our veterans died in rainstorms,” remarked one older Biddeford man who asked to remain anonymous. “I don’t think it’s too much to ask for us to be here, regardless of the weather. It’s not about entertainment. It’s about respect.”
