Category: LAWMAKER COLUMNS

These columns, offered on a monthly basis, are written and produced by members of Biddeford’s legislative delegation.

OPINION | Community in the face of division

May 2, 2026May 15, 2026 ~ marcmalon9bbd0f805b ~ Leave a comment

The breakdown of traditional media and the rise of social media has rewarded attention-seeking behavior and viral grandstanding.

COMMUNITY | Feeding Families, Funding Farmers Markets

May 1, 2026May 15, 2026 ~ Randy Seaver ~ 1 Comment

In his monthly column for the Biddeford Gazette, State Sen. Henry Ingwersen discusses the benefits of a bill he sponsored to address hunger and support local farmers

OPINION | Working toward fair school funding

March 27, 2026May 15, 2026 ~ Randy Seaver ~ Leave a comment

According to current data, 64.3 percent of Biddeford students in our school district are economically disadvantaged. This is one of the highest poverty rates of any school district in Maine.

OPINION | Taking care of the people who feed us

March 27, 2026May 15, 2026 ~ Randy Seaver ~ Leave a comment

“Mental health challenges in these industries don’t always look like crises. More often, they show up as exhaustion, irritability, isolation and a sense that there’s no room to slow down.”

OPINION | Affordability is a concern for all

February 27, 2026May 15, 2026 ~ marcmalon9bbd0f805b ~ Leave a comment

Affordability isn’t just some buzzword, nor the latest political fad or a hoax. It is a core concern of Biddeford residents and Mainers throughout our state, and it has been for years.. We’ve all witnessed how even folks with solid middle-class jobs and good incomes have struggled with the high cost of housing, health care, childcare, electricity, heating oil and more.

OPINION | Speaker Fecteau: ICE activities in Maine do not match our state’s values

February 12, 2026May 15, 2026 ~ Randy Seaver ~ 1 Comment

I was dismayed by the surge of ICE agents in our state under the grotesque title of ‘Operation Catch of the Day’. These agents were shirking good policing standards in favor of warrantless, indiscriminate, and quota-driven detentions.

OPINION: Helping parents afford childcare

January 29, 2026May 15, 2026 ~ Randy Seaver ~ Leave a comment

I’d like to highlight my bill, LD 1859, “An Act to Improve Access to Child Care and Early Childhood Education by Establishing Regional Resource Hubs.” It seeks to address Maine’s childcare crisis by creating a network of regional hubs to connect families, childcare providers and employers with much-needed information and support
