LETTER | Planned hearing reveals political hypocrisy

Editor:

[In response to Congressional hearing scheduled in Biddeford, Biddeford Gazette, Aug. 11, 2026]

Just wondering if you can tell me how many Congressional hearings have been held for the five Mainers who have been killed at the hands of those who are in this country illegally (for that matter, how many protests, how many murals)?

Not only have there been no hearings, there have been no headlines announcing their deaths to the world.

Apparently, their lives are of far less value, why else would the media treat their deaths so inconsequentially?

Those who have gotten their panties in a bunch over this, claiming to be so tolerant, so inclusive are sadly neither.

Unless you fully embrace their ideology, you are labeled, a bigot, a homophobe and a racist.

They have sucked all the air from the room.

  1. I would say that people who have been killed by undocumented immigrants have had the full force of the law behind them. Any murder is tragic. If each murder you describe was proven to be a murder by an undocumented person, then they would have been subject to arrest, detention, trial, sentencing, and undoubtedly deportation at the end of their sentence. In this case, there has been zero accountability of law enforcement (ICE) bungling this arrest by shooting the wrong person, who was here legally, in the face multiple times.

  2. Dear Editor: The letter written by Mr. Eccleston asserts that five Mainers have been killed by undocumented immigrants. A search using Google’s A.I. claims that there is no evidence whatsoever (through any Maine media outlets) indicating that any Mainers at all have been killed by undocumented immigrants. Can you, as a newspaper Editor and Journalist, verify that five Mainers have been killed by undocumented immigrants? Can you list the names of the five Mainers and the dates and details of the crimes? I am curious to know more about it. If you cannot find this information, can you please not publish such unverified statements in a newspaper? Or at least attach to the letter an “Editor’s Note” that allows people to know that this statement on the part of the writer is totally unverified. Thank you.
