The non-profit, digital media news outlet is planning to launch a new website and will be expanding its reporting through student internships and affiliate partnerships

Members of the Biddeford Gazette’s Community Advisory Council met on Tuesday to review and plan some exciting changes that will soon be taking place at the digital publication, which provides “hyper local” news coverage about the city of Biddeford.
The Biddeford Gazette’s Community Advisory Council was established more than a year ago to help guide the non-profit’s mission, offer constructive feedback and to ensure that the Gazette is meeting the needs of a diverse population in an ever-changing media landscape.

“If the Gazette is going to truly serve the community, it must have the pulse of the people who live, work and play here, said Laura Seaver, the Gazette’s publisher in a statement last year. “We need and want constructive feedback from the community. We want to hear a diversity of new ideas and suggestions.”

On Tuesday, the Advisory Council’s discussion centered upon the upcoming launch of new and much-improved website that is intended to give visitors an enhanced, more intuitive experience in accessing news, events and other information about the city.
The new site will come with new email contacts, improved social media integration and other tools that will help readers stay connected to the community they care about.
The council also discussed new partnerships and opportunities for expanded reporting. Within the next few weeks, readers can expect to see reporting from journalism students, including a Community News Fellow arrangement with the University of New England.
“It’s hard to believe that we’re already beginning a third year, and that we’re experiencing such rapid growth in terms of subscribers, site visitors and volunteers from the community,” said Craig Pendleton, chair of the Community Advisory Council. “We never imagined two years ago that this project would be so warmly embraced by the community.”
The 11-member Community Advisory Council meets in person for quarterly meetings and stays connected throughout the year via email or individual meetings.
