NEWS | Doughty resigns Biddeford City Council seat

Doughty says he recently purchased a new home located outside the boundaries of Ward 4; Mayor Liam LaFountain will appoint a candidate to serve the remainder of the two-year term

Dylan Doughty, the Ward Four representative on the Biddeford City Council, told the Biddeford Gazette this morning that he will be resigning his seat because he will no longer be living within his ward, as required by the City Charter.

Doughty and his partner State Rep. Ryan Fecteau have purchased a new home.

Mayor Liam LaFountain will appoint a replacement to fill the remainder of Doughty’s two-term that ends in December 2027.

Doughty first joined the council in a 2024 special election to replace the resignation of former councilor Bob Mills.

Doughty was reelected in 2025, defeating a comeback attempt by Mills, 430-340.

Mills was elected in June to return as York County Treasurer, and he was also elected to serve on the city’s charter review commission.

Doughty has played a pivotal, often moderate role on a city council that often appears politically divided.

Doughty said he will miss working with his fellow councilors on a long list of lingering problems that have plagued City Hall for more than two years.
