NEWS | Gendron joins Biddeford School Committee

With more than 25 years of experience in the Biddeford School Department, Patricia Gendron brings a wide range of skills to the committee, replacing the vacancy created by the resignation of Meagan Desjardins

Patricia “Patsy” Gendron, a lifelong Biddeford resident who spent 25 years serving students and educators throughout the Biddeford School Department, has been appointed to the Biddeford School Committee.

Gendron will represent Ward 6, filling the vacant seat previously held by Meagan Desjardins.

The School Committee confirmed Gendron’s appointment at its September 9 meeting following her nomination by Mayor and School Committee Chairperson Liam LaFountain. She will serve the remainder of the current school committee term.

“Patsy brings 27 years of experience as an educator, including 25 years in the Biddeford School Department, along with a deep understanding of the needs of our students, educators, and families,” said LaFountain. “Her commitment to helping every student succeed and her knowledge of our schools will make her a valuable addition to the school committee. I am grateful that she is willing to step forward and serve Biddeford in this new capacity.”

Gendron’s extensive career in education has included roles as a kindergarten and first-grade teacher, literacy specialist, K–12 literacy coach, Assistant Title I Director, and multilingual learner teacher at Biddeford Middle School. She also coordinated and taught the district’s multilingual learner summer program and led numerous professional development opportunities for educators.

Gendron holds a master’s degree in Education in Literacy and an English as a Second Language endorsement. Her connection to Biddeford schools is also personal. She is a graduate of the district and the parent of two children who attended Biddeford schools.

I care deeply about the success, safety, and well-being of every student. I look forward to listening, collaborating, and using my experience to support our students, families, and staff.”

According to a press release, Gendron was selected following a community application process that generated several letters of interest.

LaFountain and Committee Vice Chair Marie Potvin interviewed three candidates.

School Superintendent Jeremy Ray said Gendron will be an outstanding addition to the school committee.

“She has devoted much of her career to Biddeford’s students, families and educators,” Ray said. “Patsy knows our schools well, cares deeply about every learner and will bring a thoughtful and compassionate voice to the school committee’s work.”
