Sheriff Bill King brings strong, proven leadership with a focus on prevention and community collaboration to help protect our York County communities and residents.
His collaborative, common sense approach is multi-faceted including teaching sessions for the Bureau of Highway Safety to enhance safety on our roads and conducting outreach for community awareness and prevention of financial and land scams throughout the county.
Sheriff King has ushered in several significant improvements to the jail and law enforcement system in York County. Under Sheriff King’s leadership York County’s jail scored a 100 percent compliance rating in its last state Inspection and became the first county law enforcement agency to achieve accreditation from the Maine Law Enforcement Accreditation Program.
Sheriff King has been involved in the creation of the state-of-the-art York County Regional Training Center, which provides training for first responders and other public safety officers through a unique partnership with York County Community College (where he also teaches aspiring law enforcement and corrections officers). He has served on the planning committee and has been instrumental in developing York County’s Regional Recovery Center, which provides observation, detox, and short-, medium-, and long-term residential treatment for county residents.
