Another busy — but especially rewarding — week at the Biddeford Gazette. Our apologies for once again being a day late with our weekly update.

_________
BEHIND THE SCENES | We’re still working on building our foundation and are working daily to fulfill our mission of delivering reliable, accurate news, opinion and feature stories about the city and people of Biddeford.
We excited to share that three more people will be joining our Community Advisory Council, two of whom live in the Biddeford-Saco area and have decades of journalism experience; and another who is under the age of 25 and will help guide us in reaching younger readers, Look for the formal announcement soon.
We are constantly working on ways to update and improve our website. Since we are a digital-only publication, this task in mission critical. In the next few months, this entire site will be redesigned and hosted on a remote server. Exciting — but terrifying stuff for someone like me who can barely figure how to use Google search.

WHAT HAPPENED? | Once again, we were proud and honored to have published the regular monthly columns from both State Rep. Marc Malon and State Sen. Henery Ingwersen. Mr. Malon wrote a compelling piece that takes a deeper dive into Maine’s school funding formula and how it impacts communities like Biddeford.
Sen. Ingwersen’s piece discussed his success in addressing the need to provide mental resources for people who work in Maine’s heritage industries (an issue very close to our hearts).
Also, this week we were proud to offer an exclusive story about Don Creighton, a beloved security guard at McArthur Library. The big news last week was that a York County Superior Court justice dismissed the city of Biddeford’s complaint against the Saco River Corridor Commission regarding its approval of controversial research pier. We also published the response from Biddeford Mayor Liam LaFountain.
____________
WHAT’S NEXT? | We’re looking forward to publishing candid interviews with City Councilor Brad Cote and City Councilor Jake Pierson; all part of continuing “Chatting with Councilors” series. We’re also pleased to announce that we finally publish the Walking Down Memory Lane feature story that focuses on Biddeford’s cultural heritage.

We’re working hard to get back on schedule, while also making sure we are not rushing, but focused on quality as our mission and our responsibility to you.
The featured image in this week’s newsletter was provided by Barbara Pelletier of Biddeford. We’d love to see your photos, too!

FINAL WORD | Thank you so much to Biddeford resident Tim Sevigny for sharing his digital artwork with me. If you have lived in Biddeford for more than five years, you know that the Sevigny family is widely known and respected in this community (Think: pork pies, Sevigny’s Market, and Biddeford Career Firefighters) Tim’s emailed artwork touched me deeply and it is so appreciated!
