Gerard grew up in Saco, and was educated at Notre Dame School.  Being the oldest of nine, Gerard took on the role of supporting his mom and siblings when his father suddenly passed away.  As a young man he had a passion for fixing anything mechanical, from small engines to motorcycles and cars.  This evolved into a career as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic.

In 1987, Gerard married his beloved wife, Helen Stults, and the couple settled in Old Orchard Beach where he took on the role of caring for, and mentoring Helen’s four children.  In 1995 Gerard and Helen relocated to Hollis, where they continued to live to present day.  In his later years, Gerard’s line of work transitioned to driving tractor trailers.

Being a self-taught man from such a young age, Gerard developed a broad array of skills, which he regularly put to good use.  He found great joy working on and around his house.  There was nothing he couldn’t do, fixing furnaces, garage doors, lawnmowers, and the list goes on and on. He found fulfillment in putting in an honest day’s work.

Most of all he loved helping others in need. Day or night, rain or shine, whenever anyone called, he would be there to help them.  He will be dearly missed by many.

He is predeceased by his parents, by his brother Roger Blais, by his brother Andre Blais, and by his sister Jeanne Blais.

Gerard is survived by his loving wife, Helen Blais; by his daughter, Heidi; by his four step-children, Daniel Rich, William Rich, Kimberly McLaughlin, and Diane Mitts; by his three adopted children, Robert, Kimberly and Karin; by eight grandchildren; by one great-grandson; by two brothers, Edward Blais, and Francois Blais; by three sisters, Denise Foster, Marie Thivierge, and Bernadette Spulick; as well as by several nieces and nephews. | READ MORE

Gladys M. Beaulieu

Nov. 19, 1929 – April 7, 2026

HOPE MEMORIAL CHAPEL | Gladys Beaulieu passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026 after 96 well-lived years. Gladys was born on November 19, 1929 in Caribou, ME to Paul Beaulieu and Elise Martin. At a young age, she moved to Southern Maine and settled in Biddeford for the rest of her life.

Gladys lived her life believing in three major things:

First was that family is incredibly important. She loved family gatherings, especially Christmas Eve celebrations at her son Percy’s house. She was always excited to spend time with her grandkids (and later, great grandkids) and loved to go to cookouts. Gladys could eat like someone twice her size and never gain a pound. Some consider it her superpower.

Second, she believed in the value of hard work. She spent most of her working career split between the Biddeford mills and SHAPE, a company in Kennebunk that manufactured VHS tapes.

In her later years, she worked a part-time job bagging newspapers for the Biddeford-Saco Courier. She constantly bragged that she was able to bag twice the papers compared to her younger counterparts. Even when she wasn’t working, she would clean her apartment until it was immaculate; she would still get down on all fours with a rag and scrub her floor in her 90s.

Finally, animals brought her constant joy. There was no quicker way to get a smile on her face than to put an animal in her lap. As an adult, she doted on her pet parakeet Elijah and rabbit Lesley. She also fell in love with any cat or dog that was in the vicinity. She was consistently plotting to steal her granddaughter Erica’s dog Bear…so much so that Erica made her a pillow with Bear’s face on it.

Gladys is survived by her daughters Rachel Casavant of Lyman, Jean Brooks and Patricia Cote of Biddeford, six grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. | READ MORE

Jeffrey Gilpatric

March 25, 1947 – March 24, 2026

DENNETT, CRAIG & PATE | Somewhere out there, a curvy road with smooth pavement, sunshine, and the smell of the deep earth is putting a smile on Jeff Gilpatric’s face. One of those mischievous smiles that is instantly mirrored by anyone around him.

To meet Jeff and earn his distinct nod of approval was to be welcomed into his realm as a friend for life. You had to accept his dry sense of humor, fierce desire to protect those he loved, and his uncanny ability to tell it like it is whether you wanted to hear it or not. You never had to consider it though, because to know this Old Fart was to befriend him. And to befriend him meant he was going to have your back – through thick and thin, whether you had seen him last week or a decade ago.

Even though Jeff spent his last several years set back considerably by Parkinson’s, underneath the disease’s terrible grip, his spirit remained. You may not have heard it quite as loud, but he spoke it with his eyes. He battled it with that legendary humor we all know and a staunch determination to rebel as much as he could get away with, much to the dismay of those who loved and cared for him. Would he have had it any other way?

You may remember Jeff for his love for adventure, fishing, flirting with pretty women, gardening, his minimalist attire when he was home alone, or maybe even from a time when he impatiently mended from some incident involving road rash. But the common thread? His passion for anything with two wheels. Some may count their successes in life by way of dollar signs, but his successes were in adventures on two wheels. Usually a BMW or Ducati, but when it came down to it, the Old Fart appreciated anything that could be classified as a motorcycle – or even a moped. That mischievous smile – sparked by two wheels and fueled by curvy roads – that’s what brought him joy.

Jeff was born on March 25, 1947 in Biddeford, Maine. He grew up in Saco, attending Thornton Academy followed by Andover College and then joining the Coast Guard after high school. READ MORE

Jean Roy

May 18, 1968 – March 26, 2026

HOPE MEMORIAL CHAPEL | Jean Roy, 57 of Lyman, passed away at home surrounded with love on March 26, 2026 after a 17-month battle with a dual diagnosis of ALS (Amytrophic Lateral Sclerosis) https://www.als.org/ and FTD (Frontotemporal Dementia) https://www.theaftd.org/.

Jean was born in Biddeford on May 18, 1968, son of Jean Charles and Charlotte Roy. He grew up there with his parents and siblings and resided there until Kelly swept him off to a small cottage in the woods of Kennebunk.

He worked for the machine shop that employed him during high school and continued growing in this industry he loved. Eventually Jean was promoted to production manager and though the company ownership changed, he remained with them for 33 years. He was very proud of his position and the relationships he made along the way.

He met Kelly just after high school and they were fast friends for a few years before he decided she was the girl of his dreams and he wanted to bypass the friendship and take a chance on love.  The request for her hand in marriage took a little longer but the engagement was short.  They celebrated 31 years of marriage together and created an amazing family with four children:  Branden and his wife Caitlin; Cameron and his fiance Julia; Makenna and her husband Chandler and the youngest of the four, Marleigh.  They are excited for the Roy legacy to continue.

Jean loved rising early, coffee from Dunkin Donuts, Makenna’s breakfast sandwiches and puttering in the yard from sun up to sun down. He cherished his time with family and friends and was always first to offer a helping hand. After a serious hospitalization in January, his siblings made every effort to see him weekly with dinners at local restaurants and other holidays and events. They brought him coffee and treats and when the cold weather hit and the fear of illness from flu or Covid was present, they still continued to make efforts to see him at home regularly.

He and Kelly had wonderful friends from their early years together and more recent friends they would see regularly, but they cherish them all. The closest group met sitting in folding chairs on the side of a soccer field watching Marleigh and her friends celebrating the kicks that contacted the ball, the cute hair styles and showing the crowd that it wasn’t about the win, it was about the camaraderie. The friendships developed beyond the soccer field and the adults enjoyed their own outings and travels. The first trip to Key West, Florida was epic for Jean. He was always smiling but there, he never stopped! This was his Disney World. He looked forward to a return trip but the diagnosis stopped him in his tracks. READ MORE

Dick formed close friendships with his neighbors and loved the Dayton community. He was very proud of his precisely mowed lawn in the summer and his perfectly plowed driveway in the winter.

In his final years, Dick’s most favorite time of the week was taking his daughter Kathleen out to breakfast on Saturday mornings in Buxton—an activity that both privately insisted to Brianna that they only did because the other loved it so much. READ MORE

Growing up, Bill worked doing odd jobs and assisted his father in equestrian pursuits with the Fairfield-Westchester hounds and at local horse shows. He played hockey, football and sang in the choir at Christ Episcopal Church in Greenwich. He continued his love of music as a member of the Glee Club. At U Maine, Bill was a Varsity “M” athlete, co-captain of both the indoor and outdoor track teams, and a Yankee Conference record holder in the hammer throw. Maurice ‘Moe’ Roy

Dec. 29, 1961 – Jan. 9, 2026

HOPE MEMORIAL CHAPEL | We are greatly saddened that Maurice “Moe” Roy passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 9, 2026, from a motor vehicle accident. Maurice was born on December 29, 1961, to Rachel Landry Roy and George E. Roy of Biddeford, Maine.

Moe graduated from Biddeford High School in 1981, making many friends and keeping his teachers busy during his school years. After graduation, Moe went on to have a successful career in sales. His humor and large, engaging personality served him well professionally. During his career, Moe sold boats, cars and RVs in New Hampshire, Maine, and Florida. His most recent place of employment was at Camping World, where he managed the purchasing of used RVs for re-sale.

Moe moved to Lady Lake, Florida, in 2018, reconnecting with his old friend Bob Grimmer. In the last several years, Moe enjoyed socializing with the many friends he made in Florida. During the summers, he would travel back to Maine and New Hampshire to reconnect with his large network of northern friends and family.

Moe lived life to the fullest every day. He loved going out to eat and relaxing with a good cigar in the company of friends. He liked to post pictures of loaded Bloody Mary’s, which always included several shrimp, poking up on skewers, along with platters of oysters and seafood.

Moe was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, very proud of his “loud” Harley. He enjoyed motorcycle rallies and events, including Laconia Motorcycle Week, an annual bike event in New Hampshire. Although he loved his motorcycle, he was planning to sell it to buy a Jeep and become part of the Jeep community.

Moe loved his dogs. He was heartbroken when he lost Roosevelt and Eleanor. More recently, he lost Jake, who he helped care for with his former partner, April Woods, and remained very involved with her dog Max. READ MORE
