The Biddeford High School football team gave their fans plenty to cheer about during Thursday’s 28-6 season opener under the lights at Waterhouse Field.

The Tigers dominated the first three quarters, giving the Brunswick Dragons no leverage and running the score with three touch downs, ending the third 21-0.

Junior Estevao Lembissa had a stunning night with three touchdowns and two interceptions, including a fourth-quarter pick and 20-yard carry from deep in Brunswick territory with less than two minutes remaining in the game.

Brunswick struggled to find momentum but capitalized on a wide pass with a short run for their only touchdown, halfway through the fourth quarter. They failed to capitalize on a two-point conversion attempt, however.

Charlie Drapeau was one of many fans who attended the Tigers’ season opener.

Drapeau was a left guard who played for the former St. Louis Eagles in their very last season in 1970 against their rivals – the Biddeford High School Tigers – at Waterhouse Field.

“That was a hell of a game,” Drapeau recalled. “We beat ‘em, and the Journal Tribune estimated there were 7,200 people here that night.”

Sterling Little, Sr., also attended Thursday’s game. “I started coming to these games in 1988 when my son (Sterling Little, Jr.) played for Coach Landry,” he said. “Tonight’s game is one hell of a performance.”

Senior Zander Huot closed out the first half with an extra two-point run.

Juniors Alex Gosselin, Marcus Perkins and Stanley Richerson all had strong nights on both offense and defense.
