FAQS

WHO IS BEHIND THE BIDDEFORD GAZETTE?

The Biddeford Gazette was founded in November 2024 by Randy Seaver, a veteran journalist with more than three decades of professional experience in journalism, advocacy and public relations. His work has been featured in publications throughout New England.

Laura Seaver is the Gazette’s publisher and is president of Biddeford Gazette, Inc.

The Gazette also has a nine-member advisory board made up of a diverse group of community leaders. The advisory helps guide us in both our coverage and we how we share news and information with the greater community.

Our team includes several volunteers, including a copy editor and several contributing writers.

The Biddeford Gazette is registered and incorporated as a non-profit media outlet in the state of Maine.

WHY DOES BIDDEFORD NEED ANOTHER MEDIA OUTLET?

We believe that there is no such thing as too much local news coverage.

Biddeford once had its own daily paper. Sadly, the Journal Tribune closed its doors and ceased publication in October 2019. The weekly Biddeford-Saco Courier was once a thriving, locally owned and operated weekly news publication. That publication was sold to Maine’s largest newspaper conglomerate several years ago. The Courier ceased printing in March 2025.

Up until just a few years ago, the Portland Press Herald — Maine’s largest newspaper — had a fully staffed news bureau located on Main Street in Biddeford. They closed that bureau several years ago. Since then, the city of Biddeford has not had a reporter dedicated to only covering Biddeford news and events.

There are lots of gaps in Biddeford news coverage. We do not seek to compete with other publications or local, amateur bloggers. Our primary goal is to get reliable information out to the public. Whenever possible, we will collaborate with other media outlets. We will use our social media sites to drive traffic to other media companies.
