Liam LaFountain said he is disappointed that an upcoming Congressional hearing in Biddeford will be a partisan affair

Biddeford Mayor Liam LaFountain issued a public statement Wednesday to clarify his role express his disappointment about an upcoming Congressional hearing by House Democrats in Biddeford.

“I expressed my hope that members of Congress from both parties would be invited to participate because this is an issue that deserves serious attention and oversight from across the political spectrum,” LaFountain said.

“I was told I’ll be asked about the state of the current investigation and the use of force by federal agents on the streets of Biddeford. I will share the information I have and speak openly about what we know. Johan’s family and the people of Biddeford deserve a full and independent understanding of what occurred.
“Federal authority must come with federal accountability, and Congress has an important role to play in providing that oversight when the exercise of federal authority results in the death of a member of our community,” LaFountain said.
The hearing will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 17, at Biddeford High School’s Little Theater.
