From very humble beginnings, our vision for a non-profit, community-based, professional news organization has taken off. Now, it’s time for our readers to tell us what they want when it comes to local news.
Eighteen months ago, I launched a community project to help improve news coverage in my hometown of Biddeford.
As large, corporate and legacy publications continue to abandon community news coverage — chasing algorithms and profits — single community-focused news platforms are becoming a national trend.
I had no idea about how enthusiastic the Biddeford community would be about the creation of a professional news organization that would focus entirely on just the city of Biddeford.
It has been an incredible journey; one that is financially supported by our readers and staffed by volunteers who all want to see the Biddeford Gazette succeed and continue its mission.

We are planning to launch our new website in September, and we want your input, guidance and ideas about what you want when it comes to accessing local news on a digital platform.
Our new site is being built on a different platform with a new domain, and we want to make sure that we prioritize function over design.

How can the Gazette
better deliver Biddeford news?
We’re planning new reader-interactive features, including community polls and improved reader comments and enhanced “search” functions.
As a digital publication, our website is a critical component of our work. In old-school terms, our site is both our printing press and circulation department.
