[October 8, 2025] MEET MOCHA!

Like a good cup of coffee, Mocha is a blend of different flavors and variety of quirks that make her truly special.

Mocha is a large, two-year-old mixed-breed female.

MEET JAKE!

Meet Jake, this week’s Pet of the Week and featured Fluff Piece.

Jake is a one-year-old, very lovable, very handsome brown and black male cat.

Jake is very friendly, and not shy. He is the first to come to the door when you walk past, the first to say hello in the morning and the first to sit at your side on the couch.

Jake loves affection, especially being rubbed under his chin or on his back. He loves being with people.

Jake needs to find a home where he is the only cat. He has feline leukemia (FeLV).

FeLV is a disease that is easily transmitted from cat to cat through saliva (like grooming each other or sharing a water dish).

The staff at the Animal Welfare Society, including the veterinarians who diagnosed Jake, are happy to share everything they know about FeLV and how it affects him, specifically.

FeLV is contagious amongst cats but it cannot spread my disease to dogs or humans.

Jake should be an indoor cat only.  Jake is not in any pain and his quality of life is that of any other cat. While having FeLV isn’t great, cats like Jake can and do live long, healthy, happy lives with attentive people and regular vet visits.

So, there you have it! Jake the great in a nutshell! If you want to have snuggles, cuddles and love in your life and you don’t have any feline friends at home, maybe Jake is the friend for you!

Meet Ollie!

Ollie is a friendly and fun-loving pup looking to find a new best friend.

Ollie is described as a very snuggly guy who loves head scratches, and wants to be by your side all the time — whether that’s on a walk or lying by your feet while you’re on the couch, he’s just happy to be with you.

Ollie is eight-years-old, and a large, mixed-breed dog that weighs just over 75 pounds.

Ollie loves to get outside and play with toys or go on walks.

Ollie has experience living with other dogs and kids, and likes “to keep it laid back and chill” when not on a great adventure.

Ollie is house and crate trained, and can be pretty easily persuaded when treats are involved.

If you or someone you know is interested in becoming best friends with Ollie, stop by the Adoption Center in Kennebunk or call 207) 985-3244.

Meet Blue Hawaiian and Green Alien!

Blue Hawaiian and Green Alien are two very shy cats in search of a quiet, “low key” home.

Not every cat wants to be the life of the party. Some prefer a cozy corner, quiet home and a human who understands that love takes time.

Blue Hawaiian and Green Alien are both one-year-old cats looking for a new home.

Blue Hawaiian and Green Alien want to tell you all about what makes them shy and sweet in this week’s Pet of the Week.

“Hiding is our comfort zone, at least for now,” Blue Hawaiian explains. “One thing we really want our future families to know about us is that having cozy spots to hide is what makes us comfortable.”

As a shy and sweet pair, the two cats prefer to have spaces where they can get away and keep to ourselves.

“Hiding helps us feel safe and we feel most at ease when the world isn’t too loud or busy. Green Alien and I aren’t trying to be difficult, we just need time to trust and adjust in our new home.”

The two cats are looking for someplace where they can take their time, explore when we’re ready and be themselves. If you’re someone who prefers a quiet night in over a loud night out, you may be the right person for us for these domestic short hair cats.

Maggie is a female Black Mouth Cur that is 3 years, 4 months old.

Maggie weighs approximately 74 pounds, and is “a very friendly and outgoing dog.”

Maggie is described as an energetic young gal who loves to be the center of attention. “Whether it’s playing with you or leaning my weight onto your legs while you pet me, I just want to be with my people!”

Maggie also loves to be outside.

“While I enjoy a nice snuggle session on the couch, I usually spend it daydreaming about running around outdoors or going for a long walk! There’s just so much to explore and enjoy when you’re enjoying some fresh air!”

If you or someone you know is interested in adopting, then come by the Adoption Center or give the Adoption Center a call at (207) 985-3244!

JULY 22: When people are considering adopting a pet, they typically think of dogs or cats, but have you ever considered a rabbit?

What better potential pet to have debut Fluff Pieces than Fluff, one of several white rabbits now available for adoption at the Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk!

Like many of the dogs and cats at AWS, rabbits like to play! They enjoy running and playing with toys. When you have a white rabbit, like us, you don’t blend into the shadows of our tunnels so you can always find us. Suffice it to say, we’re not great at hide and seek (except maybe in the snow….)

When you adopt a rabbit from AWS, you get a complimentary voucher for a pet wellness exam at Southern Maine Hospital for Small Animals.

If you or someone you know is interested in adopting, come by the Adoption Center or call (207) 985-3244
