MEET GLIMMER

This adorable young guy is very sweet, affectionate and full of potential. He’s still learning a lot about life at his young age and approaches each day with curiosity and a loving spirit.

Glimmer is an eight-month-old mixed-breed male that today weighs 34 pounds

While in foster, Glimmer quickly learned crate training along with some fun cues! He’s a smart guy who is ready to learn as he grows up. Glimmer loves going on walks, playing tug and will happily work for his favorite treat: cheese!

When playtime is over, he’s ready to melt into your lap and snuggle up with you. If you’re looking for a bright, loving companion who’s ready to take on life with you, then Glimmer could be the one for you!

MEET BLUTO!

Hey everyone, my name is Bluto. It’s so nice to meet you all! This past weekend I was able to go on a very fun dog date to the beach, trotting around in an AWS “Adopt Me” vest all day. It may only be March, but I just can’t wait for warmer weather and long walks on the beach! I had such a great time that I couldn’t wait to share it with you!

So, for this week’s Pet of the Week, hear all about Bluto’s Beach Day!

My favorite part of going to the beach is getting outside and enjoying the long walks! Nothing completes Bluto’s Beach Days like exploring new places and getting to stay active with my dog date friends. Every walk is a new adventure with exciting smells and sights! Walking along the shore and showing off some of my skills earned me some treats. My friends at AWS know I give a great paw and shake!

One of the best parts of Bluto’s Beach Day was rolling around in the sand with all of my excitement! I was just so happy to be outside and enjoying a trip to the beach that I needed to express just how happy I was. I am known for showing off my silly side, so this is pretty on brand for me! Plus, I enjoy making my friends laugh and have a good time, so I’m always ready to keep you entertained with my antics.

READY TO ADOPT? To adopt, please stop by the Adoption Center during our open hours: Tuesday – Sunday from 10am – 12:30pm and 1:30pm – 4pm, with the last adoption meet or scheduled appointment at 3:30pm. If the pet is listed as being in foster care, please call first. To learn more about what to expect when adopting from AWS and to view our FAQs, please visit our adoption process page.

MEET JUICEBOX & FIZZLEPOP!

Hey everyone, my name is Juicebox and it is so nice to meet you! My friend Fizzlepop and I are a pair of rats looking for a new home, as well as our fellow rats Flapdoodle and Whiskerwobble. Our names are funky, and so are we! You see, you may not think of us as common house pets, but we make great companions. So, for this week’s Pet of the Week, learn why rats make great companions!

One thing that may surprise you is that we are social and affectionate! We really enjoy the companionship of our people and other rats. Hence why adopting us in pairs is so important, as we thrive in social environments. This allows us to express ourselves and be happy with our friends! Us rats also enjoy being held, gentle pets, sitting on shoulders and even some light cuddles from time to time!

Along with being quite social and affectionate, we are pretty smart as well! We may not know sit or shake, but we are known for being great problem solvers! Rats like us can even learn our names. With treats and positive reinforcement you could have Fizzlepop and I mastering fun tricks and navigating small obstacle courses! Our curiosity keeps us engaged, so we appreciate fun, enriching experiences with our people.

As many apartments don’t allow for our canine and feline counterparts, us rats are a great option for smaller living spaces! With a properly sized enclosure, we fit perfectly into an apartment and make for great, quiet companionship. Along with daily snacks, play and some time spent outside of our enclosure we thrive in apartment living! Being small comes with great perks, and Fizzlepop and I hope to make a big impact on your heart!

So, now that you know why rats make great companions, let’s make that a reality! If you or someone you know is interested in adopting, come by the Adoption Center or give my friends at AWS a call at (207) 985-3244 For more information: https://animalwelfaresociety.org/

Austin is known for having a bit of a goofy smile that comes out when he’s the happiest.  Along with being known for his smile, another important ingredient in Austin’s recipe for happiness is keeping it chill and low-key.

This pooch enjoys the relaxed moments in life, and is happy to be by your side while you read, watch TV or cozy up on the couch together as a loyal and loving best friend.

Austin really enjoys the presence of his family, and hopes to be a steady companion.

MEET JAKE!

Meet Jake, this week’s Pet of the Week and featured Fluff Piece.

Jake is a one-year-old, very lovable, very handsome brown and black male cat.

Jake is very friendly, and not shy. He is the first to come to the door when you walk past, the first to say hello in the morning and the first to sit at your side on the couch.

Jake loves affection, especially being rubbed under his chin or on his back. He loves being with people.

Jake needs to find a home where he is the only cat. He has feline leukemia (FeLV).

FeLV is a disease that is easily transmitted from cat to cat through saliva (like grooming each other or sharing a water dish).

The staff at the Animal Welfare Society, including the veterinarians who diagnosed Jake, are happy to share everything they know about FeLV and how it affects him, specifically.

FeLV is contagious amongst cats, but it cannot spread my disease to dogs or humans.

Jake should be an indoor cat only.  Jake is not in any pain, and his quality of life is that of any other cat. While having FeLV isn’t great, cats like Jake can and do live long, healthy, happy lives with attentive people and regular vet visits.

So, there you have it! Jake the great in a nutshell! If you want to have snuggles, cuddles and love in your life and you don’t have any feline friends at home, maybe Jake is the friend for you!
