The Biddeford Gazette is a non-profit digital news source that focuses its primary coverage on the city of Biddeford, Maine.

OUR MISSION:

We strive always to provide quality, factual and unbiased news, events and other activities related to the city of Biddeford, Maine.

We work daily to uncover and discover news that matters to our readers and followers, and we remain committed to the highest journalistic standards.

OUR PEOPLE:

We celebrate and support the differences among our team members, our advisory board, our financial supporters and those who submit materials to us for publication in the Biddeford Gazette.

We do NOT tolerate discrimination based on age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, disabilities or any other personal characteristics.

ETHICAL STANDARDS:

We are committed to the very highest standards in the journalism industry by remaining independent and ensuring accuracy in everything we publish. We check facts, question information that is provided to us and always aim for proper context and transparency in our reporting.

Our ethical standards include the following:

Conflicts of interest:

We are an independent, non-profit organization registered and incorporated in the State of Maine and are not influenced by outside pressures. We are completely committed to transparency in our reporting and coverage.

Any potential conflict of interest will be clearly disclosed whenever applicable.

Corrections Policy:

When mistakes in our reporting are identified, we will acknowledge and address those errors. Any story that has been identified as containing errors will be updated, to include publishing the fact that the story contained errors and has been corrected.

Bylines and clarity in authorship:

All of our published stories will include clarity in identifying the author of the work. We do not allow anonymous posting on our website or on our social media platforms.

Use of anonymous sources:

The use of anonymous sources is sometimes necessary in discovering important news that impacts the community. We generally avoid the use of anonymous sources in developing our reporting. However, those rare cases that include anonymous sources will require approval by both the Gazette’s editor and publisher.

Submission Policy:

The Biddeford Gazette encourages and promotes a robust and diverse community conversation about our coverage and events happening in the city of Biddeford.

Readers are welcome to submit letters to the editor or guest columns that relate to the city of Biddeford and/or our coverage.

All letters must be signed and include the author’s town or city. No one person may submit more than two letters or columns within a 30-day period.

All submitted pieces must meet basic community standards, and are subject to editorial review and discretion.

Technology:

The Biddeford Gazette strongly discourages the use of AI (Artificial Intelligence). If AI is used in publication of any materials posted on our site, those stories will require a written disclosure that AI was used.

Social Media:

The Biddeford Gazette maintains the very same standards and procedures outlined here on all of our social media platforms, including (but not limited to) Facebook, Instagram, X, BlueSky or YouTube.

Other media sources:

The Biddeford Gazette places a high value on the principles of collaboration and cooperation with other media outlets. All materials used in the Gazette, including photos and videos, from outside media sources must clearly identify the source of the materials.

OWNERSHIP:

The Biddeford Gazette is owned and operated by the Biddeford Gazette, Inc., a registered non-profit media outlet that is incorporated in the state of Maine. Our bylaws and other required documents may be viewed on the Maine Secretary of State’s website.

Laura Seaver of Biddeford serves as the Gazette’s publisher and president of Biddeford Gazette, Inc. Randy Seaver of Biddeford serves as the Gazette’s editor and vice-president. Craig Pendleton of Old Orchard Beach is a member of the Gazette’s Advisory Board and serves as treasurer of the Biddeford Gazette, Inc.
