A protest designed to put pressure on Republican Senator Susan Collins regarding ramped up enforcement activities by the US Immigration & Enforcement Agency (ICE) attracted a large crowd Tuesday afternoon.
The rally, which included music and several guest speakers, was held at the entry of Collins’ Biddeford office.
Kathy Griffin of Biddeford said she was there to protest a federal agency “that is acting like a secret police force.”
“ICE is not making us safer,’ she said. “They are actually making us less safe, and they have become a menace to a civilized society.”
Collins’ Biddeford office was closed with the front door locked. The rally attracted significant media coverage.
There was little to impact on local traffic as a team of organizers worked to keep protestors on the sidewalk.
