CONTRIBUTED STORY | Biddeford Cultural & Heritage Center
The Biddeford Cultural and Heritage Center (BCHC) invites the public to a special evening of film, history, and conversation as part of BIDDEFORD 250: Biddeford’s Commemoration of America’s 250th Anniversary (1776–2026).

The next program in BCHC’s AMERICA AT 250 |A DEEPER HISTORY — Voices & Visions Lecture Series will feature Maine filmmaker Dan Lambert and his newest documentary, Muster to Memory.
The free event is open to the public and will be held at the McArthur Library on Thursday, May 14, beginning at 6 p.m.
Produced by the Dirigo History Project, Muster to Memory examines the experiences of the 1st, 10th, and 29th Maine Infantry Regiments during the American Civil War through the firsthand words of the soldiers who lived it.
Drawing from the journals of John Mead Gould and the wartime letters of Abial Edwards, the film offers a moving exploration of memory, sacrifice and humanity during one of the nation’s defining conflicts.
Lambert, a native Mainer, has spent more than 20 years producing and directing documentaries and short films focused on Maine history. A former producer/director with Maine Public, he has created multiple Emmy-nominated documentaries, including Dirigo: Maine at Gettysburg, Forlorn Hope, and Sixteenth Maine at Gettysburg.
Also joining the evening will be David Cheever, former Maine State Archivist and writer of the film. Cheever has led numerous public history initiatives commemorating Maine’s Civil War sesquicentennial and bicentennial.
Because Muster to Memory is scheduled to premiere on Maine Public later in May, organizers respectfully request that the presentation and film not be video recorded in order to honor the upcoming broadcast premiere.
