NEWS | Your questions wanted for Gazette’s election coverage

We’re gearing up to once again provide comprehensive coverage of the local candidates and issues that will be facing Biddeford voters on Nov. 3. Now, we want to know what questions you want us to ask the candidates

Once again, the Biddeford Gazette is planning to provide its readers with comprehensive coverage of the upcoming local elections that will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

But this year, we are hoping our readers will take an active role in our coverage of the various candidates and issues.

As we begin interviewing the candidates, we want to ask them questions that come directly from our readers.

When it comes to the Maine Legislature, the York County Sheriff’s Office, the York County District Attorney or the county commissioners, what issues do you think are most important? What are your top concerns? What do you want to ask the candidates?

The Gazette will begin its coverage by collecting basic data and survey questions from all of the candidates this week.

From there, we plan regular updates that will feature candidate responses to a wide range of local and state issues, including taxes, the economy, education, health care and environmental issues.

We will not be providing regular updates about the upcoming gubernatorial campaign, the U.S. Senate or the First District Congressional race.

Here are the races and issues we will be covering:

State Senate District 32

Incumbent Henry Ingwersen, a two-term Democrat, is facing a challenge from unenrolled candidate Jason Litalien, a Biddeford attorney who previously ran unsuccessfully for the city council and for mayor.

Maine House District 132 (Central Biddeford, downtown)

State Rep Ryan Fecteau, a Democrat and current Speaker of the House, will be unopposed for a second term in his relatively new district. Fecteau is hoping to once again be selected as House Speaker if Democrats are able to hold their razor-thin majority in the Maine House of Representatives.

Maine House District 133 (western Biddeford)

Incumbent Democrat Marc Malon is facing his first-ever challenge in his bid for a third consecutive term by veteran Biddeford City Councilor Marc Lessard, an at-large representative who has historically been one of the city’s top vote getters.

Maine House District 134 (coastal and eastern Biddeford)

Democrat Incumbent Traci Gere of Kennebunkport is hoping for a fourth consecutive term and is facing what is expected to be a strong challenge from Republican Alan Daggett of Kennebunkport for the House district that includes Biddeford’s coastal neighborhoods.

York County Sheriff

Democrat Incumbent William King is hoping for a fourth consecutive term and is facing a challenge from Independent Brian Pellerin, a former deputy; and Republican Rev. David Corbett, a perennial political candidate who most recently tried to defeat Ingwersen in the 2022 Senate District 32 race.

In a somewhat strange twist, Corbett’s candidacy was questioned earlier this year in complaints filed by his own political party with the Maine Secretary of State.

According to a March 23, 2026 story in the Bangor Daily News, York County Republican Party Chair Heidi Sampson said she initially believed Corbett’s candidacy was a joke.

In her complaint, Sampson referenced rumors that Corbett is a friend of Sheriff William King and was only running to divert votes from independent candidate Brian Pellerin, who also complained that Corbett was not qualified to be on the ballot.

Secretary of State Shenna Bellows ruled that Corbett’s candidacy was legitimate and that his name will appear on the Nov. 3 ballot.

Unopposed Races

Democrat Kathryn Slattery of Old Orchard Beach is unopposed in her reelection bid for District Attorney.

Democrat Doris Ortiz of Arundel won her June Primary campaign over Roch Angers of Biddeford; and will be unopposed on the November ballot.

According to the Maine Secretary of State’s office, today (August 25) is the last day for any write-in candidates to submit paperwork in order to have their names appear on the November ballot.
