CONTRIBUTED STORY | Nancy Drapeau
The Alumni Band is pleased to announce the recipients of the Marcel “Mike” Drapeau Alumni Band Scholarship: Alden Gilg, a graduating senior at Thornton Academy, and Lily Dubois, a graduating senior at Noble High School. Each will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
Lily and Alden were selected for their musical excellence, leadership, and commitment to community service—qualities that reflect the mission of the scholarship.

Lily Dubois
Dubois is an accomplished vocalist whose talent has earned her placement in the highest auditioned ensembles at Noble High School, as well as performances at the District One and MMEA All-State Festivals.
Her musical leadership is extensive: she helped establish the Whole Note and Half Note Program for incoming 8th‑grade students, creating a welcoming environment that encouraged participation and confidence.
At school, she serves as a section leader for the Chamber Singers and Treble Choir, contributing to the growth and strength of both ensembles.
Dubois is known for her willingness to mentor peers and support younger musicians. She has served as a teacher’s assistant for the past three years, accumulating more than 300 hours of community service—an exceptional achievement. Her dedication, combined with her musical talent, points toward a promising future as a music educator.
Lily will pursue a degree in Music Education at the University of Southern Maine.
Alden Gilg
Alden’s achievements are numerous. At the heart of his work is a deep love for music and a desire to express himself musically whenever possible. His primary instrument is violin, though he also plays oboe, bassoon, keyboard, and sings. He has performed with the Portland Youth Symphony Orchestra, his school’s string trio, and at District and MMEA All-State Festivals.
Alden’s inspiration to pursue music began with the Pineland Fiddlers. He joined this group, performing at contradances and folk concerts.
Though he performs in traditional musical groups, he also creates them, founding the TA String Trio at Thornton Academy. This leadership has created additional performance opportunities for himself and his peers. His creativity is boundless, and his passion for music is both clear and inspiring.
Alden will continue his unique musical journey at the Ithaca College Conservatory, where he plans to major in Sound Recording Technology.
