Emma Bouthillette — a marketer, writer, yoga instructor, corgi mom and native of Biddeford — has joined the Biddeford Gazette’s Community Advisory Council.
Emma is closely connected to her hometown of Biddeford. She is active in many non-profit organizations, including the Heart of Biddeford and was featured in the Biddeford Cultural & Heritage Center’s Voices of Biddeford series.

“There is absolutely no question that Emma is a powerful addition to our team,” said Craig Pendleton, chair of the Gazette’s Community Advisory Council.
“This is a pivotal time for the Gazette,” Pendleton noted. “Our non-profit organization is standing on the cusp of some dynamic and exciting changes.
“Piece by piece, we’re building a new model for community news gathering by tearing down traditional barriers of competition and embracing a community-driven, collaborative approach.
“Emma will fit perfectly into that dynamic and will play a central role in our continued growth and our ongoing mission to keep Biddeford people connected to the city where they live, work and play.”
Bouthillette earned a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from the University of New England in 2008, with a semester during her senior year spent at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies.
After a year writing for local weekly publications, Emma began working at the Portland Press Herald and enrolled in University of Southern Maine’s Stonecoast program, obtaining her Master of Fine Arts in creative non-fiction writing in 2012.
In addition to the weekly newspapers and The Portland Press Herald, her byline has appeared in Port City Magazine, Maine Women Magazine, UNE Alumni Magazine, and The Masters Review.
Emma published her first book, A Brief History of Biddeford, in 2017. Copies of her book can be purchased at Elements: Books Coffee Beer.
