Heather grew up in Maine and graduated from Brewer High School. She later made Biddeford her home, a place where she truly settled, built her life, and aged with grace, elegance, and unmistakable style.
From 2007 to 2012, Heather proudly operated H&M Slender Spa alongside her son, Michael, in downtown Biddeford. Christine Hall | Dec. 6, 1957 – Jan. 1, 2026
(Dennett, Craig & Pate) Christine Hall, 68, of Saco passed away peacefully at her home on January 1, 2026.
She was born in San Antonio, Texas on December 6, 1957, to Annaleisa & Morris Emery. The family moved to Germany when she was a young child, where her mother was originally from, and she was very proud of her German heritage.
After many years the self-proclaimed “Army brat” returned to the United States with her family and they settled in Massachusetts where Christine earned her associate’s degree in social work from Mt. Wachusett Community College.
During those college years she traveled throughout the Northeast and had one of her proudest moments when she led an all-girls group up Mt. Washington — and not by car, either! She always made a point to tell people that! And about their stop at Tuckerman’s Ravine.
On one of her stops she fell in love with Maine and decided to make it her home, where she married Bud Hall in 1981 and together, they raised four children who she loved to no end.
She was always a fun and caring mom, spending the kids’ younger years at Sebago Lake in Standish almost every summer where she enjoyed camping at Sebago Lake Family Campground. She was always eager to see the fall foliage in North Conway and to make her yearly stop for a new sweatshirt at the Fryeburg Fair. She loved the snowy winters and during the holidays her favorite tradition was singing “O Tannenbaum” with her children, although they could never get that German accent just right!
Christine’s greatest victory in life was her recent achievement of 13 years in recovery. Her entire family was so proud of her and how hard she worked to maintain her sobriety. The family would like to send a special thank you to everyone at the Saco Oasis Club for their love and support to Chrissy in her journey over the years. READ MORE

In the past five years, her eyesight and hearing deteriorated so much that it was difficult for her to converse with others or enjoy music or bingo, but she did her best to show up and stay active. She was a master macramé artist and loved playing Dominoes, Yahtzee, Rummikub, and doing crosswords and puzzles. Mike Gerstner | Sept. 27, 1947 – Dec. 21, 2025
(Hope Memorial Chapel) Those of us who knew Mike and loved him often heard him recommend the 11th commandment. “Don’t get caught.”
Once you got to know Mike you realized that it went much deeper than an encouragement to trivial mischief:
-Don’t get caught giving in to other people’s expectations.
-Don’t get caught living a life without joy.
-Don’t get caught ignoring the wonders of nature
-Don’t get caught not releasing your creative side.
-Don’t get caught not finding joy and pure spirit in the people around you.
Hold fast to those you hold dear. In the blink of an eye, they are gone.
As Mike would say “Pax vobiscum”
Mike spent his childhood in many locations as part of an Army family. He graduated from high school in 1965 and served in Vietnam as a lieutenant. He then moved to Sugarloaf Mountain (Carabassett, Maine) where he pursued both skiing and photography.
He eventually settled in Biddeford where he was known for leading kayak tours (Gone With the Wind kayaking), sign making of both traditional gold leaf signs and vinyl signs for the Portland community, and photography. At various times he did high school portraiture and studio shoots for many Maine businesses but nature photography was always his forte. His guitar and his trumpet were never far from his side and he was always eager to join in the music making. At times he played on street corners and donated the money to the local food bank.
Mike’s life will be long celebrated by his six sisters (Jo Ann, Janet, Patty, Mary, Karen, and Carol.) and the Biddeford /Saco community that loved and supported him through his adventuresA Celebration of Mike’s life will be planned for the future. Hugh ‘Hughie’ Laurence Hennedy |Aug. 10, 1955 – Dec. 28, 2025
(Dobson Family Funeral & Cremation Services) Hugh “Hughie” Laurence Hennedy, 70, of Biddeford Pool, Maine, passed away on December 28, 2025.
Hughie was born on August 10, 1955 in Quincy, Massachusetts to parents Hugh and Doris Hennedy. He is survived by his siblings, Elizabeth (husband Chris) Hennedy-Friel, Connie (husband David) Crandall, and John (wife Christiane) Hennedy – as well as seven nieces and nephews, and three great nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
When Hughie was five years old, his family moved to Maine after his father accepted a teaching position at St. Francis College. Maine suited Hughie from the start. Spending time outside, in every season, brought him peace. Summers often found him fishing from the rocks at the end of First Street, while winters were spent skiing at Sunday River or skating on the big pond in Biddeford Pool. He graduated from Cheverus High School in Portland in 1974, and in April of 1977 enlisted in the United States Coast Guard where he was certified as a surface sonar technician. Hughie was stationed in San Francisco, Calif., and Honolulu, HI. He was honorably discharged in March of 1981.
Hughie’s adult life was deeply shaped by schizophrenia—a disease that brought profound challenges. He spent much of his early adulthood in Massachusetts receiving treatment at McLean Hospital in Belmont and later divided his time between Cambridge, Mass., and Biddeford Pool, Maine.
Despite the hardships he faced, Hughie was never without love. He was cared for by many compassionate professionals and supported unwaveringly by his family and community. In time, he returned permanently to Maine, where his devoted mother, Doris—a nurse by profession and by nature—became his full-time caregiver and greatest advocate.
Hughie and his mother shared an extraordinary bond, sustained by her devotion and his deep reliance on her love. After Doris passed away this past September, it felt impossible to imagine Hughie far from her for long. His family takes comfort in believing they are reunited now—together again, at peace, and with Hughie finally free of the illness that clouded his mind for so many years. READ MORE

Thomas L. Calo | Feb. 6, 1969 – Dec. 10, 2025
(Hope Memorial Chapel) Thomas “Tom” Calo, 56, of Biddeford, Maine passed away unexpectedly on December 10, 2025, doing what he loved most—caring for his family. A man of endless curiosity and resourcefulness, Tom was known for his ability to fix anything and his determination to master whatever he set his mind to. If he didn’t know something, he learned it and mastered it. There was truly nothing he couldn’t do—and he did it with confidence and usually with a story to share.
Tom lived life with enthusiasm and a playful spirit. He adored his wife, Amy, and never missed a chance to make her feel cherished—whether it’s bringing her morning coffee, planning their next adventure, or sharing their love for their Boston Terriers, Beau and Luke. He often told Amy, “Thank you for marrying me,” a simple phrase that reflected his deep gratitude for the life they shared.
Together, they enjoyed countless mornings at the beach, cruises to tropical islands, trips to Florida to visit family and time making memories with their grandchildren. Tom’s face would light up whenever he spoke about travel or the dream home he and Amy had just purchased in Cape Coral, Florida in November. He could spend hours reliving their adventures through photos and stories.
The holiday season always brought out Tom’s love of baking cookies and decorating—cherished traditions that began with his mom, which he embraced with enthusiasm and shared generously with those around them. He had an ever-growing list of passions: snowmobiling, fishing, boating, ham radios, antique shopping, and ancestry research with his stepson, Cameron. He was an avid collector of DVD’s and could spend hours watching his favorites. He would spend countless hours every day with his friends at “The Boat Shop.” A meticulous planner and partner in fun, Tom also embraced spontaneity—especially when it came to his beloved grandchildren, who he looked forward to spoiling and sharing old traditions and creating new ones. He attended every special event and supper and often frequented other bean suppers in the area. He was well known by many local churches and pastors who remember his knowledge of the history of hymns.

David was also an active member of the Saco Grange, faithfully attending regular meetings and once again, playing piano and helping with events.
One of his biggest passions in life was gardening and subsistence farming. Each year he planted a large crop of all kinds of vegetables and often had a small stand to sell off excess produce. Even when it was extremely difficult to work and tend his gardens, he would find ways to get it done. He also wanted others to experience growing their own food.
For over 30 years he shared a garden with longtime friend Rick Yarborough who states “It was a privilege to be his friend”. He also loved caring for livestock, often keeping steer, raising calves, and a few pigs on the farm. Maintaining his fields and barn played a major role in his daily life. Rob was a triplet, born March 3, 1977, to Joan and David Smith at Maine Medical Center, along with sister Kristy and brother Peter.
Rob grew up in Westbrook and graduated from Westbrook High School in 1996. Before his illness, he was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing and was a die-hard 2A supporter.
Rob and Dave competed in and won many archery competitions, and Rob loved to tell of the cherished time he and his dad spent together in the woods; he always said he “grew up in his dad’s hind pocket”. Rob’s other interests included all things trucks, reading, especially about the Founding Fathers (he carried a pocket Constitution everywhere he went), watching Star Wars, cold beer, hot coffee and always being prepared. We teased him relentlessly for the 20 pounds of “stuff” he always had in his pockets. Rob had a great sense of humor which we will miss dearly.
